Position Overview

Perform duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: Employee relations, training, employment, affirmative action and employment equity program, benefits management and payroll. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill and the business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all employee and applicant documentation as dictated by governing agencies.

 

  • Manage and track all employee disciplinary action, and coach, counsel and guide managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.

 

  • Maintain and process all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attend unemployment hearings when necessary.

 

  • Assist with recruitment tasks as needed (review applications, interviews, etc.).

 

  • Act as an employee relations specialist.

 

  • Monitor tardy and absenteeism reports, and ensure proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems. Report vacation, sick, personal day and holiday use to payroll and scheduling. Maintain and distribute report of same.

 

  • Maintain employee personnel files.

 

  • Maintain, update and distribute the employee phone list.

 

  • Ensure compliance and periodically audit regarding Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.

 

  • Distribute and monitor employee performance evaluations, and ensure that they are done in a timely manner (i.e., three months, six months, one year and yearly thereafter).

 

  • Update, monitor and maintain eligible salary adjustments/increases based on three- and six-month and one-year evaluations.

 

  • Report, maintain and monitor all workers' compensation case files; follow-up on open cases.

 

  • Monitor employee eligibility for benefits plans. Review benefits with employees, and process enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organize and manage annual open enrollment, communications and election process. Maintain and distribute list of new and cancelled employees under each benefit plan. Verify benefit billing accuracy and process for payment.

 

  • Administer COBRA and group health plans.

 

  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of experience

 

  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist experience

 

  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resource programs

 

  • Human resource experience in this industry

 

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification, preferred
