Position Overview

Perform duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits administration support, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, performance & talent management, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Generalist must be capable of balancing corporate needs & goals with employee goodwill and stewardship. In addition, the position works closely with the Director and SVP/CHRO in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions and activities. The position also assists with the Company’s safety efforts and represents Human Resources on the Company’s safety committee.

Responsibilities

  • Administer various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain all policy and procedure documents.

 

  • Maintain all employee and applicant documentation as dictated by governing agencies.

 

  • Coach, counsel and guide managers before executing employee disciplinary actions. Manage and track all employee disciplinary action.

 

  • Handle employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing. Act as an employee relations specialist.

 

  • Assist with recruitment tasks as needed (i.e. review applications, interviews).

 

  • Maintain and process all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attend unemployment hearings when necessary.

 

  • Distribute and monitor employee performance evaluations and ensure they are done in a timely manner (i.e., three months, six months, one year and yearly thereafter).

 

  • Develop and maintain affirmative action program; file EEO-1 report annually; and maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.

 

  • Assist managers with performance and talent management issues and initiatives

 

  • Maintain human resource information system records and compile reports from the database.

 

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

 

  • Conduct periodic compliance audits regarding Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, AAP and SOX.

 

  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems.

 

  • Maintain company organization charts and the employee directory.

 

  • Conduct new-hire orientation.

 

  • Monitor tardy and absenteeism reports and ensure proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems. Report vacation, sick, personal day and holiday use to payroll and scheduling. Maintain and distribute report of same.

 

  • Update, monitor and maintain eligible salary adjustments/increases based on three- and six-month and one-year evaluations.

 

  • Report, maintain and monitor all workers' compensation case files; follow-up on open cases.

 

  • Monitor employee eligibility for benefits plans. Review benefits with employees and process enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organize and manage annual open enrollment, communications and election process. Maintain and distribute list of new and cancelled employees under each benefit plan. Verify benefit billing accuracy and processes for payment and ensure COBRA compliance.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of experience

 

  • Three to five years of HR Generalist experience

 

  • Human Resources experience in this industry preferred

 

  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations

 

  • Must have knowledge of employment regulations with the DOL, EEOC and OFCCP

 

  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization, exercising a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives

 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex issues

 

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines

 

  • Ability to handle confidential material along with sound judgment and problem-solving skills

 

  • Customer-focused attitude with high level of professionalism and discretion

 

  • Ability to work productively in an environment with high levels of interruption

 

  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resource programs

 

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification preferred
