    Position Overview

    Associate Product Engineer duties include: providing engineering support for a product or range of products through all phases of product development and manufacturing; assisting in bringing new products on-line ensuring desired functionality, efficient manufacture, and regulatory compliance;  being responsible for refining existing product processing in order to increase efficiency while maintaining required quality requirements; resolving production problems for assigned products; and designing substrates for carbon coated components.


    • Act as the link between Product Design and Manufacturing
      • Interface with Design Engineering, R&D, and other appropriate functions to fully understand functionality, performance, and safety requirements of assigned products
      • Work jointly with Production, Q.C., Mfg. Process Engineering, and Quality Engineering to assure that required manufacturing and Q.C. steps for successful & efficient production of assigned products are properly defined, integrated & verified/validated
      • Provide or review needed engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, methods, tooling, fixturing, or gaging for processing and inspecting assigned products
      • Determine disposition of discrepant materials or components
    • Responsible for substrate design of basic components requiring carbon coating
    • Responsible for ensuring that acceptable raw materials and components required for supporting in-house production levels are received. This includes:
      • Communicating engineering, quality, delivery, and regulatory requirements
      • Assuring actual raw material, component and vendor service costs are in line with budget
    • Analyze basic Manufacturing related problems of assigned products and propose solutions
    • Travel to vendors, trade shows and between CryoLife facilities, possibly overseas
    • Coordinate cross-product issues throughout the product life cycle
    • Review and update product risk assessments for assigned products
    • Coordinate activities with manufacturing subcontractors
    • Coordinate the development and implementation of basic product manufacturing processes
    • Communicate technical product status to management, to include new and existing processes
    • Work to support Mfg. Product Engineering, Mfg. Process Engineering, Production, Q.C. and Quality Engineering to assure assigned processes successfully produce components or sub-assemblies that conform to applicable drawings, specifications, and/or procedures
    • Develop knowledge of pertinent Manufacturing Technologies and disseminates this information as requested to various engineering and production groups


    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Develop and keep knowledge up-to-date regarding pertinent Manufacturing Systems and Processes; drawing standards; in house procedures, policies and specifications; GMP; ISO 9000 series and other appropriate regulatory requirements
    • Provide various product cost and implementation information
    • Perform additional duties that may be assigned by Supervisor


    • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree  in a technical or manufacturing field preferred
    • Minimum 1 year experience of Engineering & Product Design, in Medical Devices or other closely regulated products required
    • Familiarity with A.N.S.I. drawing standards, CAD, manufacturing processes, process control, engineering economics and project scheduling
    • Understanding of diagnostic, product test, failure analysis, and debug techniques
    • Ability to take various designs into production
    • Self-starter with strong interpersonal & communication skills and problem solving ability
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written instructions
    • Basic computer skills, including use of MS Office, internet, and electronic mail
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Required to read, write and speak English with good command of the language, follow verbal and written instructions and use simple math
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.  Employees in this classification must maintain insurability during the term of employment
