    Position Overview

    The human resource generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, performance & talent management, affirmative action and employment law compliance. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The generalist must be capable of balancing corporate needs & goals with employee goodwill and stewardship. In addition, the position works closely with the HR Manager in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions and activities. The position also assists with the safety efforts and represents HR on the safety committee.


    • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains all policy and procedure documents.
    • Coaches, counsels and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.
    • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing
    • Assists with recruitment tasks as needed (reviews applications, interviews).
    • Maintains and processes all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.
    • Distributes and monitors employee performance evaluations and ensures they are done in a timely manner (i.e., three months, six months, one year and yearly thereafter).
    • Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 report annually; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
    • Assists managers with performance and talent management issues and initiatives.
    • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
    • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
    • Conducts periodic compliance audits regarding Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, AAP and SOX.
    • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
    • Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.
    • Conducts new-hire orientation.
    • Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary action.
    • Acts as an employee relations specialist.
    • Monitors tardy and absenteeism reports and ensures proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems. Reports vacation, sick, personal day and holiday use to payroll and scheduling. Maintains and distributes report of same.
    • Updates, monitors and maintains eligible salary adjustments/increases based on three- and six-month and one-year evaluations.
    • Manages Leave of Absence cases and confidential conversations with employees and Managers. Processes leave cases according to state and federal laws and tracks time off and reporting.
    • Reports, maintains and monitors all workers' compensation case files; follows-up on open cases.
    • Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment, communications and election process. Maintains and distributes list of new and cancelled employees under each benefit plan. Verifies benefit billing accuracy and processes for payment and ensures COBRA compliance.
    • Maintains employee personnel files and all employee and applicant documentation as dictated by governing agencies.


    • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of experience.
    • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations
    • Must have knowledge of employment regulations with the DOL, EEOC and OFCCP
    • Strong communicator with the ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization, exercising a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex issues.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines.
    • Ability to handle confidential material along with sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
    • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
    • Work productively in an environment with high levels of interruption.
    • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resource programs.
    • Human resource experience in medical deviceindustry preferred.
    • Three to five years of HR generalist experience.
    • Preferred, SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification.
